Kalahri, Wisconsin Dells WI, 1/13-1/16

Rating 8.99

We headed up out of the brutal Chicago cold during mid week. Great deal of $99 per night including water park passes. However when we got to our room it was awful (a king by the door on main hallway) and two twins looking at outside water park. Went to the front desk and it was $25 to upgrade to the 2 bedroom suite -- good deal (esp since they never added the charge to our room).

Kids loved the water park, I loved that you could buy a case of beer at the gas station next door for $27 (plastic Lite 16 ounce bottles) and bring them into the park (since that is what they served).

Ate the first night at Damon's (the sports bar) and it was pretty good.

The second night we had dinner at their restaurant (Kahunaville)and it was AWFUL -- the WORST dinner I had in a long time.
1 honey weiss 5
1 lite 4
1 sampler 14.99 (Katie had a coupon for this free app, I wouldn't feed it to a dog)

1surf salad 6.99
add chick 2.00
1 kids tenders 4.99
1 bbq chicken 10.99 (this was mine, and again a dog would not eat it)

Total 46.05 for 3 kids and 2 adults

We decided to stay one additional night and the quoted rate was $289 for the night. We called the Wilderness and it was $149, so I walked to front desk, let them know their offer, and they gave us the additional night for $99. YEAH.

We had a problem the last night with an unbelievable party in the room above ours, at 2 am I went down to front desk and they immediately put an end to it. I should have done that 4 hours earlier.

Last morning we spent in the indoor amusement park. It was great, and well worth the $20 we spent to get the girls the unlimited ride bracelets. We should have bought one for the little guy since the merry-go-round was $3 per ride.

We will be back next year!

Real Time Sports, St Charles IL -- 1/18 dinner

Rating 7.5

It is a really good place to watch a game, we were there the night of the Steelers/Ravens play off game and it was really LOUD. But the atmosphere is good and the service was exceptional. We had the kids, and it was a bit rough because the video games are front right and by the huge screen tvs. Speaking of tvs, there must have been 100 in and around the bar.

I would return, maybe not with the kids.

Peter Lugars, Brooklyn, NY -- 1/7 - dinner

Rating 8.0

Not what I expected!! It is more like a neighborhood place, I thought it would be high-end dining (really fancy), but its not. Just great food.

We waited in the bar for about an hour for one person to join us, it is a friendly, comfortable place. When we were seated, it is nice and bright with friendly service. The food was excellent, were ordered the steak for 3 and it rocked.

They only take cash.

I think the bill was $470 for 4 of us, we only drank beers (no wine).

Worth the trip, but a bit hard to get to. Nice thing is they have plenty of cars for the trip back to mid town ($60).

I would return for sure.

Capri, Naperville, IL 12/27, dinner

Favorite Italian restaurant in the city..........tied with Lo Contes in Boston as the BEST.

The brothers (Joe and Andy) are the owners and Andy started serving again. You can't beat the quality or the price.

We had the 3 kids and 6 adults, drank a ton of wine, and the bill was $410.

Monks, Chicago, IL -- 12/31, lunch

This is a great lunch bar/restaurant by our old office. Food is excellent, and service is off the charts. It is a bar. I took whoever was in the office to lunch (must have had at least 10) and it was great.

$193.77 with tip.

2 Toots, Downers Grove, IL -- 1/3, lunch

This is the "train" restaurant. You sit at a counter/table and a train delivers your food.

Knee Surgery -- 12/22

It was a breeze, Dr Gryzlo is awesome. I "walked" (more like hobbled) out after being for an hour. Cleaned-out knee spurs, and made sure the reconstruction was done correctly.

It is a really good Mexican place. Real crowded mid week, but we got seated outside under a covered patio with a space heater (still a bit cold).

I had the fahitas which were really good, along with a margarita.

Very hard to park, and the valet was full.

$64.67 for dinner for two (great value)

Rainbow Room, Top of the Rock, NY -- 12/11, client lunch

Rating 8.0

We did a couple of customer events here in 2008. The room is great, and you can see the statue of Liberty when its clear.

Food is excellent (and that was nice because we had over 100 people) and service is wonderful.

Great venue

McCormick & Schmicks, N Market Building, Faneuil Hall, Boston MA -- 12/10, lunch

Rating 2.0

It was awful. Don't know if because it was so crowded, and they were understaffed - turning people away at the hostess stand, but I was not impressed.

We sat upstairs in a booth the had a curtain at the end, and I just did not like the "feel" of the place.

I had to leave early to catch a flight, but the service was HORRIBLE.

I would much rather go to Kingfish.

Kingfish, 188 Fanueil Hall, Boston MA -- 12/9, lunch

Had a client here for lunch. Great food and great atmosphere. Fish was excellent.

The owner is well known in Boston and has a few other restaurants.

I would return for sure.

I didn't get the check (for once) and don't know remember how much it was.
